My life after receiving Grace
Romans 6:14
14 For sin will have no dominion over you since you are not under law but under grace.
The bible continually speaks of God’s law. We know God’s most popular list of rules, as most of society calls them, but are truly The Ten Commandments. The very first commandment, “I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt not have any gods before me,” condemned me at the very first glimpse.
My gods, before Jesus-
Me,
the revealing clothes I wanted to wear,
altering my body to look my best,
my attitude,
my drugs,
my Mercedes,
6. my sexuality, the list goes on…
What determines who, or what is our “god?” Whatever controls us, and persuades us to make life choices, exalts itself above God’s word and consumes our hearts and minds. We don’t have to go any further than the very first commandment God gave us to see we’re not righteous, let alone dare study the law in the bible in an attempt to seek `justification.
Romans 3:20-31
20 For by works of the law, no human being will be justified in his sight since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
God’s law shows us we are sinners, shows us we aren’t perfect, it’s a mirror; not to condemn us but to point us to our Savior. Jesus is the only one who defeated sin, death, and the grave, and He says we can too, through Him, through grace.
Grace looks so good on me, and it’s going to look great on you too! If He did it for someone like me, why not you? Have faith; faith is the key.
It’s because of God’s grace I am changed, made new, walking in freedom from heroin, walking in freedom from the bisexual lifestyle, walking in freedom from stealing, and walking in freedom from complete mental bondage! I was a complete slave to drugs, sex, and finding my self-worth, but now I’m a slave to what God says is righteous. Being a Godly mother is now my motivation, giving to those in need, becoming more like Jesus, loving and serving my husband, working my way through nursing school, sharing the freedom in Christ with others, and putting off the works of the flesh that used to consume and destroy me.
I fall short of God’s glory so often, but I’m not a slave to my sin anymore; it doesn’t control me like it used to because of Grace.
Romans 6:15-18
Slaves to Righteousness
15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but grace? By no means! 16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
Grace looks like something. God’s grace leads me to repent of my sins. Knowing the law and how far I fall short of God’s standard of righteousness led me to one place. It led me to HIS FEET. I am constantly at the feet of Jesus, now thanking Him for a new life, my baby girl Melody, and the one in my belly. I am constantly thanking Him for making me a faithful wife to the most loving husband I could have ever dreamt of. Most importantly, I can’t stop thanking Him for paying the price for all my sins on the cross. It’s a real historical event that happened, and He did it for you and me.
I do deserve an eternity apart from God, in Hell, for all I have done in this life. Yet God gave me grace, and boy does it look good on me!
He’s clothed me in righteousness, not of my own but His grace. Let Him cloth and wrap you in what the bible describes as a garment of salvation, and the robe of righteousness, and be free from bondage. You can’t clean yourself up, you can’t earn salvation, it’s a gift that He freely gives. He puts it on you like a coat, like a glove, like a ring for your finger. It’s by His grace sister.
Isaiah 61:10
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD;
my soul shall exult in my God,
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Psalm 118
18 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! 19 Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD. 21 I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. 28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you.
